A Witness to History
Elegant York County Inn is close to Civil War Battlefields
by Linda C. Feltman

"...while sitting outside in the quaint courtyard listening to the chirping of crickets, Carrie and I sipped iced tea and devoured one melt-in-your-mouth Amish sugar cake after another."

Linda C. Feltman and her daughter, Carrie A. Peters, have been traveling together and visiting inns throughout the commonwealth since 1991. Linda has been involved in Pennsylvania's B&B industry since 1982.
"Nearly 20 years ago, I had been invited to a tea a the Beechmont Bed and Breakfast in York County. I remember the home as stately and elegant, with a quiet courtyard that I found particularly charming. So, when my daughter, Carrie, and I decided to visit the inn recently, I was delighted to see that despite a change in ownership since my last visit, the Beechmont was as I remembered it - a dignified brick home along a tree-lined street that has been part of historic Hanover since Andrew Jackson was president.

"Soon after our arrival at the inn, Kathryn and Tom asked if we'd like to join them for dinner at KClingers, a local tavern famous for stocking more than 600 craft beers from around the world. Over dinner, we learned about the White's efforts to give the propery a much-needed facelift through painting, papering and meticulously furnishing each room in the home.

"Today, after nearly seven years of innkeeping, Kathryn says that she is still delighted to meet new people and she is having as much fun owning an inn as she had envisioned she would.

"We want our guests to feel welcome and part of our home," says Kathryn, erasing any hesitancy we may have had about raiding the cookie jar in the dining room.

"Breakfast the next morning was a lively affair as we enjoyed Kathryn's sumptuous multicourse meal with several families who had traveled from Ohio for a reunion.

"The Beechmont is on the Battle of Hanover walking tour, and some of the events that took place near the property are noted on a historic marker in front of the inn."
