A century ago, Mrs. Schmuck was the lady of the hour at The Beechmont. It was the evening of her renowned dinner party, and residents from all over Hanover had come to revel in her gracious hospitality. Music played, guests dined, and laughter filled every room. As her final guest departed, Mrs. Schmuck sat on the bottom step of her winding staircase and said with a contented smile, "Wasn't this just the perfect evening?"
Mrs. Schmuck passed away many years ago of course, but her tradition of grace and hospitality continues. We're sure she would delight in knowing that a century later our guests are as important to us as Mrs. Schmuck's were to her.
The Beechmont has been a part of historic Hanover since Andrew Jackson was President. It witnessed the Civil War's first major battle on free soil, days before the famous Battle of Gettysburg, when Federal troops commanded by General Kilpatrick retreated down Broadway with Jeb Stuart's cavalry in hot pursuit. Union troops soon rallied under General Farnsworth and a brash young officer by the name of George Armstrong Custer, forcing the Confederates back through the center square and out of Hanover.
Now in calmer times, the house at 315 Broadway is The Beechmont, a peaceful, charming bed & breakfast inn. Whether your visit is for business or pleasure, The Beechmont can be your quiet refuge from the rush of the 21st Century.
